My story with horses
I remember sitting on my grandfathers lap at only 3 years old, admiring my new Breyer model horse I had got for Christmas. When he was suddenly inspired to make me a promised that would determine the course of my entire life… to buy me a horse when I grew up. After holding him to his promise for nearly a decade - on my 12th birthday I became the owner of a scruffy three year ranch horse named Red, and thought all my dreams had came true.
But I soon learned I didn’t have the connection, harmony, and joy I dreamed I would feel with my horse. I spent years bouncing around from trainer to trainer trying all manner of disciplines in an attempt to discover that feeling… But no matter what I did I only became more and more unhappy… because I knew my horse was unhappy. Red was a submissive, willing, well broke horse. He never kicked, bucked, or bit; and he went about any task without hesitation. But there was no joy, no sparkle in his eye, or passion in his step… and it broke my heart. I eventually gave up riding and spent my time just hanging out with my horses in their pasture. Until I discovered liberty training.
I dove into books and online research - exploring the methods of many different liberty trainers as well as classical dressage and academic art of riding teachers from around the world. All of these new ideas and perspectives cracked open the door to clarity, discovery and ultimately self development that led me to achieving my lifelong dream. My training with my horse became an electrifying dance, with true connection, communication, and harmony. I watched my broken down ranch horse become absolutely full of life and joy; and I finally got to experience a true authentic relationship with my horses.
I started to work with other horses - and successfully rehabilitated and trained multiple others including those that where malnourished, neglected, aggressive and abused. I also began sharing my journey and experience online - inspiring countless others to find success and joy in working with horses at liberty with positive reinforcement; while making connections with other talented like minded trainers world wide.
Then in 2017 - a new dream for AS Equine was born. I fell absolutely in love with the P.R.E horse (Pura Raza Espanola) Otherwise known as the Pure Spanish horse or Andalusian - and my overwhelming dream became to one day breed and raise these incredible horses.
I had my eye on a Canadian national champion mare VA Manoletes Ysabela - for her entire pregnancy since she was bred to the famous champion cartujano stallion Escamillo in California. On March 29th; she gave birth to a huge black PRE Andalusian colt; and two weeks later I was his proud new owner of VA Ardiendo.
Is truly been an hour to raise such an exceptional stallion. In 2023 VA Ardiendo officially passed revision and was approved for breeding by the ANCCE Spanish Stud book.
Now in 2024 we are taking the final step to making this dream a reality. We are welcoming home revised PRE mare Gala Mater; imported from Spain with a truly World Champion pedigree.
We are on the leading edge of an incredible new world in horse training - with profound new discoveries in science, coming together with imagination and intuition. I can not wait to combine the training philosophy I have now; with the breeding and raising of absolutely exceptional PRE foals bred and born right here with me at home - on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Canada.
The future foals of Ardiendo stud are going to be something the world has never seen before!
